03/17/2012 1:53pm  Existing MILW and CRIP units in 2012  Julian Sprott

I was just having nose through the pictures on here and I was suprised to see how many ex RI and Milw loco's exist. I must admit they they are mainly GP38-2's and SD40-2's but a number of GP7,9 and 40's made it as well.

I always wondered if MILW could have made it as a regional, had it not been bought by the Soo?

As a former milw employee, i still believe that the Milwaukee could have survived, as a large regional. but thats just my opinion.

Larry..as a former employee..which railroad did you prefer of the 3 bidding for the MILW (GTW/GTC..CNW..Soo)? I am biased with the GTW (that MILW-GTW/CN/DWP "VCA" pumped alot of traffic over the MILW..with helped make it profitable).

If the C&NW took over the MILW, they would have eliminated that railroad and sold of the assets just like they did with CGW.

Possibly, but I think it more likely the C&NW would have
abandoned (or sold off)the old Omaha across Wisconsin in favor of the River Line along the Mississippi River.
No doubt, a lot of the Iowa lines would surely have disappeared,
or at least rearranged to fit in with the rest of C&NW's own Iowa lines.

There are a number of the old GP38-2's from The Rock Island owned by GMTX and in use by the Union Pacific here and there, with about three to five assigned to the UP here in Denver. Also Coors out on Golden, CO has (had) a few SW8's-ex-831,832, & 839 and SW900m's ex-550, 553.

There is a number of ex-MILW SD40 units on the DME left. I believe that GMTX has some ex-RI units as stated above. Not sure if some of the units UP owns are still around or are owned by leasing companies.

Here are some CRIP orders that should help find where some of them have ended up...
