Of course always a matter of personal opinion, but I thought this scheme GE applied to L&N U30C #1499 was pretty striking, though it was a one-off to promote their "Extra Reliability" XR series

Even in b&w it looks pretty interesting, John Parker photo at Augusta GA on 2/17/73

GE's XR series didn't make too much difference, they still had troubles with the Cooper-Bessemer FDL prime mover for many more years, never were as reliable as EMDs.

You are correct, Rob; that IS a beauty also. No doubt about it.

(grin) I didn't start this to say anything about the reliability of GE vs EMD, I remarked solely of the aesthetics. For if I did, I know that Zack "I like my toast burnt, not buttered" Hilton would flog me until dead.

I live in the south, thus I don't eat toast...only biscuits with breakfast.

Didn't you tell me once you liked your toaster to burn toast, not locomotives?

Also, FYI, *real* southern boys eat grits....:-)
