What are the round red things on the frame? are they some kind of reflectors.

Remember this is well before scotchlite reflective strips. They are akin to red bike reflectors. I assume the idea is to help motorists at night in the wild and in street running to realize the unit is there or moving.

I probably should have said it was a 1950's solution on a 1950's sngine. By the time I took the photo SP was putting scocthlite (or an imitation) lettering on their units.
