I'm guessing this was being run as a long hood forward unit when its wreck happened?

Yes, the 1630 was running long hood first behind BN 730 when the F7A and GP35 2510 hit head on. The rear of the 730 went up and the 1630 went underneath it before the 730 rolled off onto its side.
