Apparently visibility from the cab does not matter anymore. So much for safety. Would be alright if it was used strictly for remote control, but with an engineer on it, there is limited visibility.

The C415 only had one engine...with a drive-shaft under the cab to turn the air compressor & radiator fan. But yeah, that GenSet sure looks allot like one. Had the UP order/owned any of the C415, they sure would have looked allot like that.

I believe the original reason behind the C415 was to duplicate the old steeple cab switchers that ran on the Pacific Electric.
In a weird way, this is the grandson of that, as the UP is the surviving entity of the Pacific Electric.
I'm 100% certain this was a one time thing only.

I believe that there was a thread on here about this loco, and the crews hated it, both on UP and when it was hired to PHL.

That just might be the Genset's in general. I have mixed opinions about them. Do they load up real quick making it fun to switch and kick cars? Nope! But a new clean cab thats quiet and has good air and heat is hard to turn your nose up to. I also like to be able to come home clean after I get done. I can do that on a Genset. Nothing will replace the ability of a MP15, SW1500, SW1200 for awesome switching ability. For the PHL moving cuts of stacks, quick loading is proly not an issue.
